Georges River Community Baptist Church was
located in Lugarno for 75 years until 2005
when we sold our church and purchased 55-57
Stanley St with a view to building a multi-purpose
community centre. This was an enormous step
for the church but the pain of moving was
outweighed by the opportunity of expanded
facilities. Since then we have been working
with architects and refining designs.
The final community centre design will house
a variety of community services offered by
us and other community organisation's for
many years to come. Our hope is that what
we build will make a valuable contribution
to the amenities available in our community.
The completed project will offer:
Auditorium with flexible seating for up to
400 people.
Outdoor courtyard and Café with children’s
play area
A dedicated Children’s Centre for playgroups
and other child-centered community groups
to access
Ample office/meeting room spaces for church
and community service providers.
Studio and Community Workshop
Four factory units for income
On site, parking for approximately 120 cars
Excellent disabled/frail access to all 3 levels
of the complex.
Even though our site is not zoned residential,
we are ensuring that this development has
minimal impact on our surrounding neighbourhood.
To achieve this we are:
1. Spending a large portion of the total budget
on parking underground and will exceed councils
required parking ratios. This will ensure
that any visitors to the site will have a
car park on site.
2. Buildings will adhere to councils high
standards for noise containment, so that noise
from outside factories is minimised inside
and noise from inside is minimised outside.
This project is entirely funded by the church
and our hope is that late this year we will
have raised enough funds to make a start on
the project, taking a staged approach to the
total development.
